- Structural simplicity and constructability
Life is supposed to be simple, and when it is getting complicated that is when problems rise and stresses shoot up. Simplicity is a beauty, and it applies to everything in life including structural engineering.
In the old days when sophisticated computers and software were not available, engineers designed sophisticated and time-proven structures by finding simplified load paths which generally assured the most reliable and safest structural solutions.
When structural load path is simplified, constructability is generally improved. Improved constructability means more cost efficiency and less construction problems.
Structural simplicity does not bode bad news for architectural design. Any structurally demanding architectural design can be met with simplified structural solution.
